Goat Cheese & Avocado Toast

Goat Cheese & Avocado Toast from @loveandoliveoil

This recipe is so simple it almost doesn’t count as a recipe, but it was too good not to share, jazzing up a basic avocado toast with crumbled goat cheese, red pepper flakes, and my new favorite finishing salt, Hawaiian black lava.

Goat Cheese & Avocado Toast from @loveandoliveoil

We don’t eat avocados often, primarily because really good ones are rare here in Tennessee. I’ve had one too many watery, flavorless, or fishy-smelling (ew) avocados than I care to count. So when I happen to slice into one that’s perfectly ripe (is it just me or do avocados pretty much have a one-day window?) with a buttery flavor and unblemished green color, I do a little happy dance before generously spreading it on some toast.

Black Lava Salt for Goat Cheese & Avocado Toast from @loveandoliveoil

Black lava sea salt looks like microscopic lumps of coal (this one was a sample from SaltWorks, Inc). And that’s precisely what it is: sea salt with activated charcoal added in for a smoky flavor and stunning black color (and supposed good health benefits too, so eat up!)

And now, if you will, a toast: to toast, good avocados, and fancy salt. Cheers!

Goat Cheese & Avocado Toast

Yield: 2 servings

Total Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices crusty bread
  • a ripe avocado
  • 1/4 cup goat cheese, crumbled
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • red pepper flakes
  • black lava or sea salt

Directions:

Toast bread until light golden brown and crispy. Smash avocado with a fork and divide among bread slices. Top with crumbled goat cheese. Drizzle with olive oil, then sprinkle with pepper flakes and sea salt to taste.

This is my favorite breakfast! I even put smoked black sea salt on it too! My other favorite avocado toast has caramelized onions and tomatoes. YUM!

I seriously eat avocados every day…well, most days. I get a bag every time I go to the grocery store. SO sad to hear that you have trouble finding good ones where you are! But alas, avocado and goat cheese on anything will make up for lack of avocados at other times. My favorite restaurant has a goat cheese guacamole that I’m obsessed with, so I’m sure I’ll love this recipe too!

Yum! I’ve never tried it with goat cheese. I usually add feta to my avo toast when I’m feeling a little indulgent. Must try this version!

I loooooove avocado toast. It’s so addicting. I usually put a little squeeze of lime on mine, but I’m loving the goat cheese and lava salt on this! So luxurious. :)

They sell black sea salt at my Whole Foods in the bulk section–and I’ve been meaning to buy some!  This looks so delicious.  I need to pick up some avocados this weekend.  Hopefully I can find some good ones!

Had these pinned for awhile and finally made them, oh god so good!!! Warning though, go easy on the red pepper flakes!! I was far too generous and it was hot hot hot. Also I just used what I had on hand: regular sea salt, spreadable goat cheese instead of crumbles, and a Persian lime EVOO that added great flavor. Wonderful snack that I will definitely be making again!
