Love and Olive Oil

Truly Sweet Art by Sarah Wain

Our kitchen has a new addition. Hung perfectly on the wall right over the completely useless phone jack. It’s not just pretty, it’s utilitarian. And I love it to death.

Cupcake Painting by Sarah Wain

You’ve seen this cupcake before, you say? Why yes! They’re the adorably delicious cherry-filled almond cupcakes from two years ago, interpreted in painting form by Indiana artist Sarah Wain.

Sarah contacted me a few months ago asking to use some of my dessert photos in her paintings. And if you’ve seen her paintings, it is obvious Sarah has a sweet tooth just like I do. She is one talented lady, able to capture the texture of cake and buttercream with paint on canvas. I was honored that she wanted to use my images and even more thrilled when she offered to send me a print of the final product.

The original painting is large and gorgeous, a whopping 24×36″. If I had a bigger wall in my kitchen I just might have to buy it. But for now, the print will have to do.

  1. I’ve tweeted the give away. My handle is @shopcookmake

  2. I don’t currently have any art on the walls in my kitchen because there aren’t any open walls–only cupboards, windows, and appliances. But my dream kitchen would have at least one of Sarah’s originals. They are beautiful!

  3. paintings and photos!

  4. there is not much in my kitchen walls. I would have lots of shelves and windows in my dream kitchen.

  5. Isn’t this just wonderful! I love her work. And, that piece looks fabulous in your kitchen. Now, I have a large 36 X 48 canvas of a big red watermelon hanging by our breakfast table. We were in Costa Rica and saw this piece, had them unframe it, roll it up, and we brought it straight back with us because we knew it would be lovely. Now, all I need is a cupcake! Great giveaway!

  6. Currently there isn’t anything on my kitchen walls except my magnet strip for my knives. I want to put up a ton of cute food pictures!

  15. My fiancee and I just moved into our new condo/loft 2 weekends ago. The only thing we have is a small metal poster thing that says,”And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make -The Beatles”. Hopefully I’ll get a second something for the kitchen! If you know what I mean :)

  16. Nothing at the moment except a Bible verse my grandpa gave me as a wedding gift. Pictures of food would be amazing in my dream kitchen!

  17. Seeing as I have quite possibly the worst kitchen in all of Manhattan, I don’t feel right entering any contest that could potentially result in any attempts to “beautify” it, but I will say that she is a very gifted artist: That’s a photographic-quality painting!

  18. My kitchen walls have nothing on it…a nice cupcake painting would be a nice addition!

  19. My walls showcase the most godawful wallpaper I’ve ever laid eyes upon. When we remodel our kitchen, I hope to have walls pace for real art, like that Sarah Wain cupcake!

  20. I have a painting, but it was just a temporary fix-a cupcake would be the perfect thing!

  21. That print is gorgeous. I just moved to a new place, and my walls are completely bare! A print like this is just what the kitchen needs!

  37. I would like a copy of your cupcake print! Actually any print of your desserts would look good in my kitchen. Though I think I would have to redo my kitchen once I got a good picture in it.

  38. My dream kitchen would probably be all black and white in decor but with splashes of color throughout the wall art. This one would fit it in perfectly! :)

  42. TOO CUTE!
    I tweeted! @AlmostVeganChef

  43. Currently, our kitchen is decorated with the hubby’s B&W photography. In an ideal dream kitchen, it would be more of a B&W modern design, with pops of color from Vargus-esque cheesecake prints…

  44. There is not much room on our kitchen walls at the moment, but the one piece of art I do have is a beautiful handmade and hand painted pie plate of Chesapeake Blue Crabs to celebrate my time in Maryland.

  45. I like Sarah E Wain on Facebook too!

  46. I like Love and Olive Oil on Facebook :)

  55. I currently have wine featured art work on my kitchen walls but we are reminding and I’m going to brighten it up! This would be perfect!!!

  61. The walls of my kitchen at the moment are littered with those copper jello molds that my grandmother collected for many years. Of course, my dream kitchen would be something that I would make it. I love Autumn and have a few things for my future kitchen I can’t wait to decorate with!

  62. I have some paintings in my kitchen that I have done – a pear and another one with a bowl of eggs. I would love this amazing cupcake print to accompany them! :)

I used to own a cupcake business but was not able to keep up with the demands. Feel free to check it out on the link provided above.

Best wishes to everyone entering the contest.

  66. This is actually perfect for my also very small kitchen wall space! I love food, but especially cupcakes. Who doesn’t love cupcakes?

I currently have a chalkboard above my sink (no window, boo), and two comic book-esque postcards framed. I love cute postcards framed in cheap frames!

  72. I don’t have anything on my kitchen walls! We’re moving to KY, just north of Nashville (I’ll need to bend your ear about good eats later) at the end of the month. I have a very large kitchen where we’re going and I’d love a canvas gallery wrap to adorn my kitchen walls. The FB page looks incredibly edible. BTW, your kitchen looks dreamy and spotless. Love the color!

  73. I already like Love & Olive Oil! (Amanda Livesay)

  74. I love that! What a great idea.

My dream kitchen would have lots of food related art on the walls. I suck at picking that stuff out though so I’d have to pay someone to do it for me.

  75. Right now, all that’s on the wall is a Star Trek calendar and a signed picture of Lidia Bastianich

  76. I have some art by my husbands grandmother, I would love a funky painting of some chili peppers!! Or maybe a really great layer cake, I love making layer cakes!

  79. oh man, that’s awesome!

Our walls are still bare, sadly. We moved into this house in December, finally took the fruit (not kidding) wallpaper out of the kitchen and painted, but we’ve yet to find the art work we want. We really want food and drink pictures and prints, so this would be perfect!

  83. Right now I have a huge black and white print of a model in Rome, spooning up a bowl of pasta into the air, while looking sultrily at the camera. Mid 80’s – Vogue.

    It’s my favorite.

  91. i would probably want more space, or magnet strips for my knives and stuff, with some shelving for some herbs or jarred items

  92. Our first dream kitchen is coming alive as I type, as our new home is constructed. Currently we’re living in a furnished apartment. All we have on the wall is a calendar. Some day we’ll hang the pizza peel, a few other wooden boards, and some carefully selected pieces of artwork. One of these would make a nice addition!

    Cheers,

    *Heather*

  93. The print is gorgeous! Hope I win! In our kitchen, we have several paintings of pears and one of a jar of mustard. Clearly, our kitchen artwork is lacking in the area of desserts and I need to remedy this. :~)
