Love and Olive Oil

Truly Sweet Art by Sarah Wain

Our kitchen has a new addition. Hung perfectly on the wall right over the completely useless phone jack. It’s not just pretty, it’s utilitarian. And I love it to death.

Cupcake Painting by Sarah Wain

You’ve seen this cupcake before, you say? Why yes! They’re the adorably delicious cherry-filled almond cupcakes from two years ago, interpreted in painting form by Indiana artist Sarah Wain.

Sarah contacted me a few months ago asking to use some of my dessert photos in her paintings. And if you’ve seen her paintings, it is obvious Sarah has a sweet tooth just like I do. She is one talented lady, able to capture the texture of cake and buttercream with paint on canvas. I was honored that she wanted to use my images and even more thrilled when she offered to send me a print of the final product.

The original painting is large and gorgeous, a whopping 24×36″. If I had a bigger wall in my kitchen I just might have to buy it. But for now, the print will have to do.

  12. The walls of my kitchen at the moment are littered with those copper jello molds that my grandmother collected for many years. Of course, my dream kitchen would be something that I would make it. I love Autumn and have a few things for my future kitchen I can’t wait to decorate with!

  17. This is actually perfect for my also very small kitchen wall space! I love food, but especially cupcakes. Who doesn’t love cupcakes?

I currently have a chalkboard above my sink (no window, boo), and two comic book-esque postcards framed. I love cute postcards framed in cheap frames!

  19. I’m looking forward to meeting you in Nashville in October at the food blogging forum! I’m already a fan on facebook (and in real life). :)

  20. I have nothing on the walls in my kitchen. Nada. Zilch. It’s sad. I should work on that.

  23. I don’t have anything on my kitchen walls! We’re moving to KY, just north of Nashville (I’ll need to bend your ear about good eats later) at the end of the month. I have a very large kitchen where we’re going and I’d love a canvas gallery wrap to adorn my kitchen walls. The FB page looks incredibly edible. BTW, your kitchen looks dreamy and spotless. Love the color!

  25. I love that! What a great idea.

My dream kitchen would have lots of food related art on the walls. I suck at picking that stuff out though so I’d have to pay someone to do it for me.

  26. Right now, all that’s on the wall is a Star Trek calendar and a signed picture of Lidia Bastianich

  27. I have some art by my husbands grandmother, I would love a funky painting of some chili peppers!! Or maybe a really great layer cake, I love making layer cakes!

  28. liked Sarah’s page, too! Brandi E. Her stuff is amazing.

  29. already like ya on FB! Brandi E.

  30. oh man, that’s awesome!

Our walls are still bare, sadly. We moved into this house in December, finally took the fruit (not kidding) wallpaper out of the kitchen and painted, but we’ve yet to find the art work we want. We really want food and drink pictures and prints, so this would be perfect!

  31. oh, and i’m a fan of Sarah on facebook, too :) jaclyn f.

  33. i’m already a fan of yours on facebook! jaclyn f.

  34. Right now I have a huge black and white print of a model in Rome, spooning up a bowl of pasta into the air, while looking sultrily at the camera. Mid 80’s – Vogue.

    It’s my favorite.

  35. i LOVE Sarah’s painting of your cupcake! she’s insanely talented, and i just love all her paintings of sweets and confections. i would plaster my whole kitchen-hell, my whole house with her artwork!

we have some cupcake plates and a few dessert-themed art prints hanging on our lime green kitchen walls, but you can never have too much dessert-themed art, right?

  36. I already like you on facebook!

  39. I just bid on a wine painting with the words Merlot written across three canvases! Can’t wait to hang it up! Ideally I’d love to have a wall of food photography I’ve taken…

  40. My kitchen walls are covered in raku fish.

  41. already fan-ned you on facebook! last initial Q

  42. i would probably want more space, or magnet strips for my knives and stuff, with some shelving for some herbs or jarred items

  43. Our first dream kitchen is coming alive as I type, as our new home is constructed. Currently we’re living in a furnished apartment. All we have on the wall is a calendar. Some day we’ll hang the pizza peel, a few other wooden boards, and some carefully selected pieces of artwork. One of these would make a nice addition!

    Cheers,

    *Heather*

  44. The print is gorgeous! Hope I win! In our kitchen, we have several paintings of pears and one of a jar of mustard. Clearly, our kitchen artwork is lacking in the area of desserts and I need to remedy this. :~)

  45. and… my twitter is @anm8rchick

  46. an old rotary dial phone and kit-kat clock

  47. I’ll be hanging my garlic picture on the wall of my new kitchen in just 3 short weeks! :-) I think a cup cake would be an amazing addition!

  48. What a great way to spice up the kitchen! Love that picture. We don’t have much art work in our kitchen-just a flatscreen, a big clock and a chalkboard!
